Australian Remembrance Army

The Australian Remembrance Army (ARA) is a volunteer-driven initiative founded in Brisbane, Queensland, in 2020. Their mission is simple yet profound: To ensure that every Australian who served is remembered with dignity.

Since 2020, the ARA has restored hundreds of headstones, including those of WWI and WWII veterans. Their efforts have received national media attention, highlighting their advocacy for reinstating federal funding for unmarked graves.

Tens of thousands of Australian and New Zealand veterans lie in unmarked or deteriorating graves across Australia. The ARA steps in to restore, re-letter, and care for private memorials, ensuring these stories are never lost.

It works closely with the Cook Islands Military History Research Project and the New Zealand Remembrance Army, reflecting a shared mission to honour forgotten soldiers and ensure their stories are remembered.
